Pros and cons of online dating

When compared to traditional methods to meet women, online dating offers some great benefits.

Online Dating Pros and Cons

Thanks to Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, using the internet as a social tool has become something "everybody" does, and as a result, the interest for online dating among girls has exploded. Most single girls today have, have had, or will have, a profile on a dating site.

Online dating is perhaps the least intimidating way there is to meet women; the worst that can happen if you try to contact someone is usually that she won’t answer your message. Furthermore, many guys prefer to meet girls in private on a quiet date as opposed to shouting at them in a noisy club surrounded by drunk people. You can meet women online at any time from anywhere; if your work requires lots of travel, you can have a date lined up during your trip to a new city, and if you just don’t feel like going out, you can spend your weekends in, meeting girls whenever you want to.

Girls in clubs will seldom approach you; that’s also different on dating sites, at least if you have a great profile. Because most guys are horrible at presenting themselves in the right way, girls end up competing over the select few who make a good impression. It’s an interesting and exhilarating experience to have girls competing over you; it can do wonders for your self-esteem, which will be helpful when meeting women in general.

Online dating also involves more than dating sites. I've already mentioned Facebook, and it can be a powerful tool; it can make getting dates with women you meet in clubs, around town, or in your social circle much easier. An optimized Facebook profile will increase the odds that the girl you just met briefly at a party or in the supermarket will be interested in seeing you again, and even though you exchanged phone numbers instead of Facebook information, you can be certain that she'll Google your name and look at your profile picture when you text her a few days later.

But the greatest thing about online dating is the fact that the investment it requires only has to be made one time.

As soon as your profile is up and some basic skills are acquired, you can begin collecting revenue, as it were. It’s like having an agent working around the clock to get you dates − an agent that can continue to do so a year from now, in three years or in five years from now. After your initial investment is made, minimal time and effort are required on your part, at least compared to getting dates in other ways. You’ll be able to meet a new girl every week, if you so desire, without doing more than writing some messages from the comfort of your own home.

However, online dating does of course have some disadvantages; to avoid the common pitfalls you have to know what you're doing. You've seen the ads; "Men wanted! Our site is swarming with lonely women looking for sex!" Those are scams, as I'm sure you've already figured out. In general, you should mistrust sites that target guys in their advertising; all the good dating sites became successful because they understood that they had to focus on making themselves appealing to women. From a business perspective, dating sites are like nightclubs; get the attractive girls to come, and the rest takes care of itself.

The only sure-fire way to find the best sites where you live is to do some research. Don't choose the first site that turns up in Google, and don't choose a site because it advertises a lot. In fact, the market leaders tend to advertise less than the inferior sites, the ones that are trying to build themselves up. Talk to girls in your age group instead − ask them what dating site they'd choose and what site their friends are using. Talk to guys as well and ask them about their experiences with different sites.

There are other disadvantages to online dating as well; you’re going to need an optimal profile, and creating it will require a lot of knowledge and effort. There's a reason most guys don’t get it right; if all you had to do was to download a template from the internet, push a button on an automatic profile generator or copy some pick up lines, every guy alive would be swimming in girls.

Figuring out what a girl is really like until you meet her can also be a challenge; if you don't know what you're doing, you will end up on some bad dates. Luckily, there are measures you can take to minimize the risk of that happening as well as ways to reduce the time you end up wasting if it does.
